HORIZON CASINO RESORT TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR FALLEN PATRIOT FUND AUTOGRAPH PARTY THURSDAY FEATURES TROY AIKMAN, MARK CUBAN, OTHERS
(SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, NV.) -- Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will be among the celebrities signing autographs at The Horizon Casino Resort at Stateline, Nevada, Thursday, July 17, from 4:30pm to help raise money for The Fallen Patriot Fund, benefiting families of soldiers lost in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As part of the American Century Championship, the celebrity golf tournament held at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course this week, various celebrities will sign tournament posters provided to fans offering a $20 minimum donation. In addition to hosting the event, The Horizon will also be making a cash donation.
The autograph signing party will be held in the Aspen Lounge adjacent to the main casino floor beginning at 4:30pm. Children and adults are welcome.
The American Century Championship, the 14-year-old, pre-eminent celebrity golf tournament televised by NBC each summer, will raise funds through a variety of resources. A portion of the $500,000 purse won by players who retain their amateur status will be donated to the cause. Contributions from other companies, sponsors and the public will also be sought. Mark Cuban is matching donations dollar for dollar up to $1 million.
New Jersey Nets superstar guard Jason Kidd, fresh off his appearance in the NBA Finals, will donate his prize money from the tournament and he will also spearhead other fundraising efforts in Lake Tahoe during tournament week. It is anticipated that a host of other celebrities will participate with individual donations and/or prize money donations, potentially elevating the fundraising total to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The field of 78 sports and entertainment celebrities playing at the Tahoe event include Michael Jordan, Jason Kidd, Charles Barkley, Mark McGwire, Rush Limbaugh, Dennis Miller, Craig T. Nelson, Marshall Faulk, John Elway, Jerry Rice, Mario Lemieux, Dennis Quaid and Jesse Ventura.
Coverage of the first round of the 54-hole American Century Championship will be provided by ESPN on Friday afternoon from 3:30-6:30 p.m. PT. NBC Sports will telecast the tournament live on the weekend, with the second round on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. PT and final round on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. PT.
