Career Highlights: Through six NFL seasons, Terence Newman is recognized as one of the NFL’s top young cornerbacks…Selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Newman quickly established himself when he earned All-Rookie honors, tied for the league lead among rookies in interceptions and was named an alternate to the Pro Bowl, all in his first professional season…Blessed with speed that made him an indoor and outdoor All-American sprinter in college, through six seasons Newman continues his ascension as one of the NFL’s finest all-around cornerbacks...Newman was voted to the 2008 Pro Bowl after recording four interceptions (tying career high), 50 total tackles, one touchdown, one forced fumble and 13 pass deflections following the 2007 season…He started all 16 games his first four years in the league, before a torn plantar fascia in his right heal slowed him in 2007, yet he still played in 13 games and a groin injury for six games last year…Newman has proven himself as one of the NFL’s top cover men with 20 career interceptions…Three of Newman’s interceptions in 2007 were game-changing plays including one preserving a win against the Washington Redskins, another prevented a scoring drive from the Buffalo Bills which later allowed a winning field goal, and finally an interception for a touchdown against the New York Jets all but prevented any comeback attempt…Newman played college ball at Kansas State University from 1998 to 2002 and was possibly its most decorated defensive player in history…He was an All-American, was the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and won the coveted Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back and was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation’s best defensive player as a senior….Newman also was the Big 12 Conference 100-meter dash champion in 2001 and 2002 with times of 10.29 and 10.34, respectively….He also won the Big 12 Conference 60-yard dash in indoor competition with a time of 6.65….Newman was the 2002 Big 12 Conference Indoor Co-Performer of the Year.
